Title: School Bus Monitor
Reports to: Executive Director-Aspire Day School
Mission
The Aspire Day School integrates education and intensive mental health treatment for elementary and middle school-aged children with behavioral or psychological disorders to reduce barriers to learning and education.
Aspire Day Treatment Program mission is to help children/adolescents and students who are struggling academically and/or behaviorally. We are an agency committed to quality gender-responsive, trauma-informed care to our clients with emotional and behavioral health challenges.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a School Bus Monitor at our Aspire Day School. The school bus monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students while they are transported to and from school. This role involves supervising students, maintaining order on the bus, and assisting the bus driver as needed. Student Supervision:
· Monitor students during their commute, ensuring they remain seated and follow safety protocols.
· Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus safely.
· Maintain order and discipline among students to prevent disruptions during the journey.

Safety Procedures:
· Familiarize oneself with emergency procedures and protocols for handling various situations, such as accidents or medical emergencies.
· Ensure that all safety equipment, including seat belts and emergency exits, is in working order.
· Instruct students on proper bus safety practices, such as fastening seat belts and staying seated while the bus is in motion.

Communication:
· Maintain open communication with the bus driver to address any issues or concerns during the route.
· Communicate with school staff and parents regarding any incidents or behavioral issues that occur on the bus.

Student Assistance:
· Provide assistance to students with special needs, ensuring their comfort and safety during the journey.
· Offer support to younger students who may need help with tasks such as securing seat belts or carrying belongings.

Documentation:
· Keep records of daily bus routes, including passenger counts and any incidents that occur during transit.
· Complete required paperwork, such as incident reports or attendance logs, accurately and in a timely manner.

Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Prior experience working with children or in a similar role preferred.
· Ability to maintain composure and handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Patience, empathy, and a genuine concern for the well-being of students.
· Ability to follow safety procedures and protocols diligently.
· Physical ability to assist students and navigate the bus environment as needed.

Working Conditions:
· The school bus monitor primarily works during school hours, typically in the mornings and afternoons.
· The job involves sitting, standing, and moving around the bus to supervise students.
· May be exposed to various weather conditions during outdoor duties, such as assisting students at bus stops.
· Requires the ability to adapt to changing situations and respond quickly in case of emergencies.
