A Middle School Math Teacher at St. Louis Catholic Academy plays a vital role in fostering academic excellence, character development, and spiritual growth among students in grades 6-8, inspiring students to achieve their full potential in academic and moral dimensions and preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development and Instruction:
Develop and implement dynamic lesson plans that align with grade-level standards and Catholic teachings.
Provide clear explanations of mathematical concepts and facilitate hands-on learning experiences.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
2. Spiritual Integration:
Infuse Christian values and principles into math instruction, fostering connections between mathematics and faith.
Lead discussions on the ethical implications of mathematical decision-making and problem-solving.
Support students in recognizing the presence of God's order and beauty in mathematical patterns and concepts.
3. Assessment and Feedback:
Assess student understanding through formative and summative assessments, including quizzes, tests, and projects.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to guide their academic growth and development.
Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions and identify areas for intervention or enrichment.
4. Classroom Management:
Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture conducive to learning and respectful discourse.
Set high expectations for behavior and academic achievement, reinforcing Catholic values such as honesty, integrity, and compassion.
Implement consistent and fair disciplinary procedures in accordance with school policies and values.
5. Collaboration and Professional Development:
Collaborate with colleagues to align math curriculum and instruction across grade levels.
Participate in departmental meetings, professional development sessions, and curriculum planning activities.
Stay current on best practices in math education and Catholic pedagogy through ongoing professional growth opportunities.
6. Parent and Community Engagement:
Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress, assignments, and classroom expectations.
Attend parent-teacher conferences and respond to parent inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Engage with the broader Catholic school community through participation in events, committees, and outreach activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in mathematics, education, or related field (masters degree preferred).
Valid teaching certification/licensure in math or secondary education.
Demonstrated proficiency in middle school mathematics content and pedagogy.
Commitment to the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Experience working with middle school students, preferably in a Catholic school environment.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to differentiate instruction and support the academic and spiritual growth of all students.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and classroom supplies.
Working Conditions:
Work hours may extend beyond the regular school day for meetings, events, and extracurricular activities.
