Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Automation Engineer will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and maintenance of automated systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and productivity. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions that will enhance overall performance at Joy Baking Group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, develop, and implement automated systems and processes to meet project requirements
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, Safety, IT and Quality Assurance to implement and maintain automated solutions
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical specifications for automation solutions
Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to automation
Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation processes
Write, test, and maintain code for automation scripts and programs
Utilize programming languages and scripting tools to automate repetitive tasks and improve workflow efficiency
Integrate automated systems with existing infrastructure and applications
Conduct thorough testing of automated solutions to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with quality standards
Identify and resolve issues related to automated systems promptly
Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the continuous and smooth operation of automated processes
Create comprehensive documentation for automation processes, including design, specifications, code documentation, and user manuals
Keep documentation up-to-date as changes and updates are implemented

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to analyze and interpret technical information/mathematical concepts, form conclusions, and present complex information
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw a valid conclusion

Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage projects to completion effectively
Must be able to work both independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team
Must have the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot effectively
Must be able to use automation tools and software
Must be able to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing
Must be able to have full use of arms and legs to climb stairs and ladders to access all areas of the plant and office
Must be able to travel

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Proven experience in automation engineering or a related role
Familiarity with automation tools and frameworks
Knowledge of industrial automation is a plus
Experience with PLC programming is a plus
Certification in automation or related field a plus
