Do you have a compassionate heart, excellent collaboration skills, and a passion for promoting organ and tissue donation? If so, Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) invites you to apply for this unique opportunity to join our dedicated team as a Donor Family Coordinator / Family Support Liaison.

This position includes considerable regional travel and on-call responsibility.

Donor Family Coordinators / Family Support Liaisons support and educate the potential donor's next-of-kin regarding donation options. They determine family dynamics and assess the family's understanding of the patient's prognosis to aid in the donation process. They work alongside other clinical team members and hospital staff to be both an advocate for donation and a resource to the donor's family. The responsibilities include:

  1. Donation Authorization: This role presents the donation opportunity to families and obtains authorization from family members for suitable candidates by providing education and resources. Upholds and promotes the mission of organ and tissue donation by educating families and hospital staff about the importance and benefits of donation, dispelling myths, and advocating for those that have registered their decision to be an organ donor.
  2. Compassionate Support: Provides compassionate and empathetic support to donor families throughout the donation process. This includes guiding families, addressing their concerns, and being a resource. This also includes reinforcement and clarification of the medical providers' grave diagnosis. Familiarity with cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds is crucial.
  3. Collaboration: Collaborates closely with attending physicians and other healthcare professionals, KODA donation coordinators, chaplains, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination and communication. The ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams is crucial to the success of organ and tissue donation efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree (Associate or Bachelor level) in social work, allied health, psychology, counseling, healthcare administration, business sales, marketing or a related field required. *Applicants with unfinished secondary education may be considered with related experience and willingness to complete the course of study.
  • 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, teaching, nursing, hospice, healthcare, counseling, pastoral career or other public service-related required.
  • Crisis-intervention and collaborative decision-making roles are examples of the training and experience that are relevant to this role. Examples of backgrounds include hospice care, grief counseling, pastoral work, social work, nursing (RN, LPN, CNA), palliative care nursing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to provide compassionate support to families.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams and navigate complex healthcare environments.
  • Commitment to upholding the mission of organ and tissue donation and promoting donation awareness.
  • Ability to work variable hours with on-call responsibility.
