Job Overview:

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Database System Engineer to oversee the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of mainframe database systems, specifically focusing on DB2 and IMS/DB. This role is pivotal in enhancing the performance, reliability, and security of the database environments and requires a candidate with comprehensive understanding and experience in mainframe databases.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement robust database solutions using DB2, IMS/DB, and data sharing technologies to meet business and performance objectives.
• Manage and optimize database performance through monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning to ensure system availability and efficiency.
• Work closely with various teams including development, database administration, and infrastructure to understand and meet database requirements.
• Develop and enforce security policies and procedures for database systems to ensure data protection and regulatory compliance.
• Lead database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to maintain data integrity and support business continuity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
• Document database configurations, processes, and procedures for compliance and knowledge sharing.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in database management and data sharing.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other team members, enhancing skills across the team.

Must-Haves:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in database system programming, with specific expertise in DB2 and IMS/DB system administration.
• Strong proficiency in subsystem/region design, implementation, and administration of DB2 and IMS/DB.
• In-depth knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization tools like Omegamon and SYSView.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with managed service providers, offshore support teams, and data center relocations.
• Relevant certifications in DB2 or IMS/DB.
• Previous experience in database security and compliance.
