Job Description

Brief Description

The position of advanced practice psychiatric registered nurse consists of providing advanced nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders to include substance use disorders and dual diagnosis presentations. Responsibilities may include medical prescription, MAT and MOUD management, initiating diagnostic and therapeutic measures, mixing substances to complete preparation of medication, and conducting examinations and testing. 

Tasks:

  • Assess patients' mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, or nursing staff to develop, implement, or evaluate treatment plans
  • Conduct or refer to individual, group, or family psychotherapy for those with chronic or acute mental disorders
  • Diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions
  • Distinguish between physiologically and psychologically based disorders and diagnose appropriately
  • Document patients' medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, or outcomes
  • Educate patients and family members about mental health and medical conditions, preventative health measures, medications, or treatment plans
  • Evaluate patients' behavior to formulate diagnoses or assess treatments
  • Monitor patients' medication usage and results
  • Administer and monitor prescriptions for psychotropic medications as allowed by laws and regulations and collaborative practice agreements.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in nursing; college degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree or equivalent
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, and to monitor or assess the performance of yourself, other individuals, or organization to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Ability to be aware of others' reactions and understand why they react as they do
  • Prepare discharge summary identifying status and recommended discharge plan
  • Perform admissio,n history and physicals on all new clients and for documenting, according to policy, in the Medical Record past medical history, physical findings, diagnoses, treatment plan, written orders, and prescriptions if indicated

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited educational institution is required
  • ANCC- Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (PMHNP) certification is required
  • Ability to build rapport and establish a strong therapeutic working relationship with clients
  • Experience providing evaluation and evidence-based psychotherapy with a broad spectrum of clinical presentations
  • Hold a valid DEA or be eligible to apply within twelve months

Salary range and benefits

  • Commensurate on experience
  • Salary begins at $95,000 for a 32 hour work week- no experience 
  • Medical/ Dental/ Vision/ and Retirement available
