In anticipation of a government proposal, please note that this role is contingent upon the award of work and will not be an immediate hire but will commence upon confirmation of the award.

The Role:

Simple Technology Solutions is seeking an adept and seasoned Database Engineer who possesses a profound understanding of database engineering principles and hands-on experience in DevOps methodologies, particularly focusing on SQL and cloud technologies. This position requires a blend of technical prowess, cloud architecture proficiency, and the capability to enhance database performance in a dynamic environment. Prior experience in government contracting, specifically with the Department of the Interior, is required.

The Data Engineer at STS will:

Designing, implementing, and maintaining our database systems with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and security.
Developing and optimizing SQL queries and scripts to ensure maximum efficiency and performance.
Collaborating with AWS Glue developers to design and implement data integration, transformation, and ETL workflows, utilizing AWS Glue alongside other AWS services.
Leading data migration initiatives from on-premises to cloud environments using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
Deploying Apache Airflow to orchestrate data migration processes.
Working closely with the development team to seamlessly integrate database services into our broader cloud infrastructure, leveraging AWS services.
Enforcing best practices in database management and ensuring compliance with data security regulations.
Utilizing scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Shell for automating database tasks, thereby reducing time and complexity.
Participating in the entire application lifecycle, encompassing coding, script writing, and conducting diagnostic tests on both the database and the associated software.
Providing technical expertise and support to team members and stakeholders, resolving intricate database issues.
Continuously evaluating and recommending improvements to database systems and architecture.

Education and Experience:

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
7-12 years of experience in a similar role, with substantial exposure to SQL tuning and cloud formation.
Proven track record of working with Amazon Aurora and/or PostgreSQL in a production environment.
Strong SQL skills and proficiency in SQL tuning techniques.
Expertise in AWS services such as EC2, Route 53, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation.
Hands-on experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation purposes.
Familiarity with database security concepts and best practices.
Previous government contracting experience is required, preferably within the Department of the Interior.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with a proven track record of effective teamwork.
Must be able to work the hours of 8am-5pm Eastern Time regardless of your home location

Preferred

Experience with other AWS database services such as RDS.
Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Git).

Preferred Certifications

AWS Certification is highly desirable
