Job Description

This is a Full-Time Role (40 hours per week) with no option for part-time work. While this is a remote-first opportunity, the candidate filling this role must be a resident of Brazil, the Netherlands, the U.K., Pennsylvania, New York, or the District of Columbia at the start of employment. Additionally, they must be within commuting distance of our office in São Paulo, Amsterdam, London, New York, Philadelphia, or Washington D.C. proper.

About the Opportunity

The Standards, Certification and Product Development (SCPD) Department is responsible for the development and implementation of the B Lab Standard, certification system and all digital products and services offered by B Lab Global. The department consists of three teams: Standards, Certification and Verification (C&V), and Impact Development (Product & Technology). The Standards Team creates, manages, and innovates the B Lab standards and performance requirements. The C&V Team is responsible for the development and implementation of the certification and verification system and its quality assurance. The Impact Development Team leads the development of our digital products and services, including the B Impact Assessment, manages go-to-market strategies for our products and runs technology operations for BLG and network employees.

B Lab Global is seeking a passionate and experienced Sustainability Learning Specialist to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of the global B Corp Movement by empowering businesses to adopt sustainable practices and drive positive social and environmental impact. The ideal candidate will play a key role in developing and delivering e-learning courses, live webinars, and other learning solutions from end-to-end focused on B Lab's new standards for B Corp Certification. This is a broad opportunity to learn and implement a variety of different skills. The Sustainability Learning Specialist is a generalist with instructional design and instructional technology skills and developing social and environmental sustainability subject matter expertise.

Core Responsibilities

Training Development & Maintenance [70%]

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop engaging e-learning courses and live webinars on topics such as ethical business practices, environmental stewardship, human rights, verification processes, impact management products and more.
  • Create multimedia content including slides, videos, animations, interactive modules, quizzes, case studies, and simulations to enhance the learning experience and cater to diverse learning preferences.
  • Apply design principles to create visually appealing learning materials using B Lab branding guidelines that effectively communicate course content
  • Video production and editing to ensure professional presentation and accessibility standards, including embedding caption files into videos.
  • Follow training storyboards and outlines to assemble e-learning courses in Thinkific – B Lab's learning management system (LMS) – and ensure seamless delivery, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize user experience.
  • Use an e-learning authoring tool to create interactive training content and animations.
  • Conduct research and leverage written resources to gain subject matter expertise on B Corp Certification Standards and related sustainability and risk topics.
  • Self-direct the design of course objectives, storyboards and outlines of e-learning courses and live trainings to meet the needs of different learner audiences.
  • Ensure the accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness of course content by conducting thorough reviews, gathering feedback, and making necessary updates and revisions.
  • Regularly update course content and documentation to reflect changes in regulations, best practices, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Plan and facilitate learning solutions to supplement e-learning courses and provide additional support to learners, such as live webinars, virtual workshops and other on the job training.

Training Program Administration [15%]

  • Engage with stakeholders to plan and deliver training communication and engagement plans to ensure learner participation.
  • Project manage the rollout of training programs, ensuring that courses are ready to publish by their deadline and that appropriate communications and tasks have been completed to ensure successful delivery.
  • Report on training assessment and completion data.
  • Monitoring and evaluation to understand the impact and effectiveness of courses and other learning solutions, to identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Maintain records of courses, including metadata such as course descriptions, learning objectives, and updates.

Learning Management System Administration [15%]

  • Manage user accounts within the LMS, including adding new users, assigning courses, and removing inactive users. Ensure user access levels and permissions are up to date and aligned with organizational policies.
  • Design pages and course pathways in Thinkific- B Lab's learning management system (LMS) to ensure seamless delivery of e-learning courses, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize user experience.
  • Manage additional features that support engagement, such as gamification or discussion board tools.

Major objectives for the role in the first 6-12 months

  • E-learning course development: Develop a series of asynchronous microlearning courses that orient learners to the concepts behind the new standards
  • Upskilling live components: Plan and host live sessions that complement e-learning courses, design engaging activities and discussion, and coordinate speakers and facilitators
  • Communications & engagement: Promote and communicate upskilling to B Global Lab employees and the network and track engagement and learning outcomes
About You
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in instructional design, adult education, or training delivery
  • Proficient with Learning Management Systems and eLearning & content authoring tools (e.g. Captivate, Camtasia, Storyline)
  • Proficient with graphic design tools (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Google Slides)
  • Experienced with video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, Canva)
  • Concise, proactive, and inclusive communicator with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner to diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with social and environmental sustainability concepts (climate change, social justice, etc.), and best practices in responsible business
  • Compelling storyteller at ease with meeting facilitation and public speaking and proficient at creating learning-centered and engaging presentations
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and fluency in customer support to adapt and respond to a variety of learning styles and needs
  • Effective project manager, deft at prioritization and organization with the ability to balance competing priorities to meet goals and deadlines
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a remote-first environment and with little oversight as well as collaborate productively as part of a team, across departments, and with external stakeholders
  • Data and research driven to assess curriculum impact, keep up with advances in instructional design and adult learning to implement learning solutions
  • Passion for driving positive social and environmental change and a commitment to B Lab's mission and values
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

While not required, please highlight if you have experience with the following:

  • Previous experience with visual design following branding guidelines
  • Previous experience in the sustainability or corporate social responsibility (CSR) field
  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, film, communications, writing, education, sustainability, environmental science, sociology or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Fluency in a language other than English

Compensation Details

B Lab has a compensation plan that includes:

  • An annual salary in the range of $65,000 - $70,000
  • Excellent health benefits package including access to medical, vision and dental coverage
  • Paid time off for vacation - in your first year, you'll start with 3 weeks (prorated in to your start date)
  • 403(b) with a match of up to 3%
  • Unlimited sick and personal time - if you need it, use it
  • After your first year of employment, 40 hours paid time off for community service; paid parental leave; and time and budget for your professional development (we assess this PD budget annually)
  • A remote first workplace

While this is a remote-first opportunity, the candidate filling this role must be a resident of Brazil, the Netherlands, the U.K., Pennsylvania, New York, or the District of Columbia at the start of employment.
