HM Process Control and Develop Engineer

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for monitoring and evaluating hot mill process conditions to optimize the performance of the mill model and to improve other Hot Mill process control functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains the health and performance of the mill models.

2. Works with the Level 2 group to ensure the relationship between the Hot Mill models and the level 2 system.

3. Develops automated control ideas for the hot rolling process.

4. Monitors KPI's and other process variables and evaluates means and methods to keep in control or bring to control.

5. Performs in-depth analysis of problems areas in quality or throughout to bring quick resolution.

6. Works within NPPC and ACIS and all quality/ISO system guidelines. Performs ISO conformance audits within the HM and helps operation supervisors maintain compliance with quality system requirements.

7. Coordinates and collaborates with operation supervisors, group leaders, unit leaders and personnel to promote good process control and production of quality material.

8. Interacts with Technical Department to insure proper standards and procedures are followed on all units in order to obtain the proper metallurgical properties and quality of steel in process.

9. Conducts all business in the safest manner possible for self and co-workers.

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Reports and is accountable to the Hot Mill Manager.

2. Internally, has considerable contact with personnel from all operating areas. 3. Participation in continuous improvement programs.

4. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of Engineering Degree from approved University/College (BS/BA) in Metallurgical or similar and/or work experience necessary to perform position. Basic computer skills, strong communication skills.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1.) Mobility: Stand (stationary) - 10%, stand/walk - 40%, walking - 30%, sitting - 20%.

2.) Strength and Agility: Lifting - occ. 100#, carrying - con. 15#, push/pull - occ.150#, climbing - fre., balancing - fre., bending - fre., stooping - occ., crouching - occ., kneeling - occ., crawling - occ., running - occ., twisting - occ., turning - occ.

3.) Dexterity: Grasping (firm/strong), finger dexterity/handling, reaching.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.

4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:

•Hard Hat

5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.

6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.

7. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
