Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supporting the training function of all new hired room attendants and provides on-going re-training of established room attendants. He/she is also responsible for the general support of the Room Attendants by collecting linens, garbage, performing routine general cleaning projects, delivering items to guest rooms and assisting guests with their baggage. He/she will also provide inspection of guest rooms to Brand quality and standards and assume the role of Executive Housekeeper when that person(s) is absent. He/she may also drive the hotel van if clean motor vehicle record check permits.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous housekeeping experience required.
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English is required.
  • Bi-lingual expertise in Spanish is helpful.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Light to Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 100 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to stand during entire shift.
  • Ability to reach overhead, utilize both hands, to bend over and to stoop and kneel.
  • Ability to operate light equipment such as vacuum cleaners.
  • Must be capable of climbing and descending stairs during their shift.
  • Must be able to work in an extremely dusty environment.
  • May be assigned duties that require extended periods of work outside.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions, guidelines and work objectives as set forth by the Executive Housekeeper and/or General Manager.
  • Must be able to understand the potential hazards and subsequent procedures involved in working around commercial cleaning agents and light machinery.
  • Must use common sense and integrity in ensuring the security of guest belongings while working in occupied rooms.
  • Must possess a complete understanding and working ability to manage the operations of the housekeeping and food & beverage departments.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying and resolving the concerns and issues raised by guests and co-workers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SERVICE ATTITUDE AND COMMUNICATION
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with dress code and wearing a name tag when working. Enforce these same standards with all employees.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must be always attentive, courteous and efficient in the dealings with guests, managers and all other employees.
  • Comply at all times with compliance standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Establish and maintain good communications and team work with fellow employees and other departments within the hotel.
  • Exhibit a helpful and willing attitude to serve guest requests.
  • Communicate with other hotel staff to accommodate special guest requests.
  • Develop and promote a team player attitude for the good of the hotel.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Conduct department meetings with housekeeping staff according to company standards.
  • Prepare employee schedules in accordance with budgets and business forecasts.
  • Knowledge of vendor relations to ensure procurement of top quality products at minimum prices.
  • Maintain a secure environment in which to interview, hire, train, coach and counsel employees.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies are on hand to provide top quality guest services.
  • Monitor work orders and submit to Engineering Department according to procedures, and follow up on orders to ensure completion.
  • Must be able to train and follow all safety practices such as wearing personal protective equipment, reading chemical warning labels, use of cleaning agents and other safe work practices.
  • Must be capable of self supervision and have the ability to manage time accordingly in order to complete the required work.
HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITY
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing up to 100 pounds.
  • Must practice safe use of all cleaning agents.
  • Must be able to follow all Brand safety practices such as wearing personal protective equipment, reading chemical warning labels, and other safe work practices.
  • Must be capable of fulfilling all the functions and responsibilities as the Room Attendant.
  • Collect trash and soiled linens from rooms and grounds.
  • Restock the Room Attendants’ cleaning carts.
  • Operate floor butter, vacuum, and maintain all public areas.
  • Deliver items to guest rooms (i.e. rollaway beds, cribs, irons, etc.)
  • Meet floor and public areas cleanliness standards.
  • Must be able to use two way radios, telephones, general office equipment, industrial washer, dryer, irons, vacuum, floor buffer, wet vac and other housekeeping equipment.
  • Ensure proper care of housekeeping equipment and facilities and report all maintenance as needed.
  • Must be able to perform essential housekeeping functions while meeting company standards.
  • Must be capable of utilizing both hands in order to perform such tasks as changing bed linens, scrubbing pots, etc.
  • Must be capable of reaching overhead to dust, clean the tops of equipment/appliances and to place items in cupboards.
  • Must be capable of bending over, stooping and working on the knees in order to perform such functions as scrubbing commodes, tubs, cleaning tiles and putting away items.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY
  • Complete daily checklist of cleaning common areas such as lobby, ash urns, tables, furniture, door frames, stair wells, etc.
  • Control the “Lost and Found” locker to ensure items are logged and inquiries are handled appropriately to accommodate guests.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Department the moving furniture, i.e. couch and chairs, for deep cleaning activities.
  • Balance and clear the room status nightly, comparing the housekeeping reports with the available room status and resolve all discrepancies.
  • Ensure valet laundry is recorded for valet cleaners.  Check and review incoming laundry at end of day to ensure all items have been returned.
  • Properly store, secure and issue supplies as needed to meet business demands.
  • Ensure completion of regular maintenance and cleaning projects on a scheduled basis.
  • Provide Maintenance Department with timely and accurate repair slips.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • Participate in all-employee meetings, events and other functions required by management.
  • Be familiar with all policies, hotel rules, and hotel terminology.
  • Be capable of operating telephones, light equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Maintain all compliance standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Implement emergency projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure security of housekeeping supplies and guest valuables.
  • Ensure that housekeeping area and employee lounge are kept to the highest standards.
  • Participate in task forces and committees as requested.
  • Attend meetings as required by management.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by management.
