Position Summary: The focus of the R&T University Account Manager is to manage the research projects and strategic university relationships in the Americas. The University Research & Technology Account Manager within the Airbus Americas Research & Technology organization will be responsible identifying, establishing, and maintaining technology and research opportunities to benefit Airbus R&T priorities at North American institutions of higher learning. The University Research & Technology Account Manager will collaborate with appropriate global Airbus technology teams and report status to Airbus Americas management.

The holder of this position must also matrix with other Airbus Americas research and technology project leads, filling in as necessary to support Airbus R&T requirements.



Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Description: Operations - 30%
  • Identify new technology opportunities and manage specialist assessment request from Airbus global engineering and development centers for applications in the Americas.
  • Facilitate research cooperation in coordination with technical project leads across global Airbus.
  • Understand bilateral needs, identify potential projects to invest research sponsorship budget, and specify Statements of Work objectives and deliverables.
  • Responsible for information flow from project owner to the project team.
  1. Description: Partnership Management - 40%
  • Identify, establish, maintain & operate partnerships and assure appropriate governance arrangements with selected key strategic NA partners.
  • Initiate research cooperation and support partner funding opportunities with universities.
  • Manage university partner relationships, to include engagement strategy, fostering trust, understanding the landscape and needs of the various organizations; translating the companies needs and recommended/driving appropriate initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources regarding potential university recruiting opportunities.
  1. Description: Increase and Enhance Airbus Presence - 30%
  • Understand Airbus Americas R&T policy, plans, processes and funding mechanisms, together with legal/political implications/constraints/requirements (e.g, export control regimes. ITAR, EAR, OFAC, etc.);
  • Promote Airbus R&T footprint in North America and represent Airbus in university & technical networks, at conferences, etc.
  • Represent Airbus on selected university boards & committees in relation to the company's R&T activities.

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Matrix with other Airbus Americas research and technology project leads, filling in as necessary to support Airbus R&T requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:


  • Experience in, and understanding of, a wide spectrum of aerospace research fields is required.
  • Understanding the implications and impact of Export Control regimes and IP rules, as well as how these issues can be managed, is paramount to the success of trans-national cooperation and partnerships.
  • A basic understanding of research contract vehicles and cooperative agreements is required. The candidate must also be able to assist in the negotiation of contractual terms and conditions.



Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in technical field of study required
  • Masters Degree or higher, a plus
  • PMP Certification a plus

Experience:

  • At least five (5) years (ten years preferred) of professionally relevant experience.
  • Experience in successfully developing and operating collaborative teams across different locations reporting to their own management chains.
  • Familiarity in research partnerships with institutions in the Americas is preferred, although R&T partnership experience in the rest of the world would be acceptable.
  • Knowledge, and experience of, the Americas R&T systems is a strong plus, particularly with a proven ability to navigate the system and identifying/exploit/create relevant opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Organization, leadership and project management skills required.
  • Proficiency with G Suite, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn new technologies with guidance and training a plus.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective communicator at all organizational levels, from board executive to technician.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); proficiency in French a plus but not required

Travel Required:

  • Significant amount of travel envisaged, with approximately 20% of all time spent away from the office on business. Of that 20%, approximately 80% will be domestic US travel, with the remaining 20% in Europe (predominantly in the Airbus home countries).
