Job Description

The City of Bowie is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager with a focus on arts and cultural programs to help elevate the visibility and impact of arts and culture in the City of Bowie. This contractual position will work directly under the Community Outreach Program Manager and will be responsible for managing City-sponsored concert and cinema series programs, Public Arts projects, and the Bowie Playhouse, as well as supporting the Community Outreach Program Manager with City-sponsored events. Additionally, the role entails providing support to plan and execute the on-site management of events organized by the Arts, Community Outreach, Diversity, and Education committees, and overseeing the engagement of volunteers.  

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the administrative aspects of the Bowie Playhouse, including coordination with resident groups, community theater organizations, and cinema series.
  • Executing professional administrative duties and fostering the development and implementation of the visual, literary, and performing arts and cultural programs, contributing to the overall enrichment of the community.
  • Supervise volunteers, providing leadership and guidance to ensure successful project execution.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration among various stakeholders, including artists, community members, and organizational partners.

·         Create event marketing, advertising, and social media to engage the community via the City website, newsletters, social media, and distribution lists.

·         Assists the Community Outreach Manager in the planning, coordination, and implementation of events and projects for all arts and culture projects and provides on-site event coordination.

·         Draft correspondence with vendor participants and entertainers to coordinate event participation, negotiate contracts and fees for entertainers and vendors, and process payment requests.

·         Assist with preparing periodic reports that reflect the status of projects for the Community Outreach Program Manager.

·         Evaluate projects and events, recommend any need to implement new projects, and assess the success of projects for future planning purposes.

·         Completes projects in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

·         Bachelor’s Degree in an arts-related field, public relations, cultural studies, project management, communications, business, or related field.

·         At least one year of experience in arts administration and cultural initiatives, with an emphasis on project and program management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

·         Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working with diverse groups and community organizations.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles, including budgeting, planning, and evaluation.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in public speaking and presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cost-estimating principles and techniques.

 

SALARY:  $35.00 - $37.00 Hourly (Depending on qualifications)
