Position Summary:
The Apollo seeks a Major Gifts Officer who will oversee donor engagement and strategic fundraising initiatives by successfully identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors. Personally build meaningful donor relationships, increase annual support, secure multiyear gift commitments, and conceive strategies that build a comprehensive prospect pipeline for the institution. As a member of the Development Team, the Major Gifts Officer will manage major gift giving circles as needed and collaborate with the Senior Director of Development to achieve ambitious fundraising goals.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversee portfolio of 50-75 individual donors, with emphasis on upgrading annual gifts and securing new gifts of $10,000+.
  • Lead donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for current and prospective donors of $10,000+.
  • Coordinate efforts with Apollo leadership, Board volunteers, and other colleagues to develop new ways to cultivate, engage, and steward donors.
  • Develop new and refined strategies to find new sources of growth from high-net-worth individuals.
  • With the Database Manager, manage gift tracking, prospect research, and reporting systems.
  • Lead major gift donor coordination such as ensuring accuracy of program book lists and other recognition; monitor VIP ticketing, and facilitate needs related to special event functions.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director of Development on forecasting and tracking of major gifts.
  • Assist with arrangements for Patron cultivation by the Apollo Board members and volunteers.
  • Attend donor functions, events, assist volunteers as necessary, and be available to provide high-level hospitality as needed.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Development Team, the Senior Director of Development, and the Chief Development Officer; participate in other staff meetings as needed.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3-5 years of nonprofit individual giving experience.
  • Excellent writing/editing, customer service, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to create financial reports and participate in portfolio forecasting.
  • Research skills with experience on qualifying existing and new prospects.
  • Ability to work independently but also collaboratively on simultaneous projects with other internal departments.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit database systems; experience with Raisers Edge or Tessitura a plus.
  • PC and Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Knowledge of the New York City arts and culture sector as well as industry trends.

Annual Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000

Vaccination Required:
Vaccination is required. However, the company will consider accommodation for medical and religious-based reasons.

Hybrid Work Environment:
This position may operate on a hybrid schedule that could allow for 2-3 days remote per week unless required to attend events or convenings that fall under the specifications of the job responsibilities.
