Learning Engagement Coordinator (Museum Programs and Community Engagement)

Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles’ serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.

The opportunity

Marbles is searching for an organized and friendly Learning Engagement Coordinator- focused on museum programs and community engagement that will be responsible for the development, management, coordination, and delivery of facilitated museum programming and community engagement events at Marbles.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and facilitate hands-on, play-based activities, events, and programming for museum programs geared toward early learners (0-11) using Marbles Play-Based Learning Rubric.
  • Lead family programs including but, not limited to planning meals, communicating with families, and setting up and breaking down programs.
  • Lead learning events including but, not limited to coordinating with external partners, planning food, and activities, and setting up and breaking down events.
  • Coordinate and lead the Guest Star Programs.
  • Collect and share informal and formal data on museum programs and event’s impact and engagement.
  • Develop and facilitate exceptional play-based learning experiences offsite, including driving to the site, set-up, delivery, sharing information about the play-based learning experiences that Marbles offers, and breakdown.
  • Manage and deliver community playdates at partnering libraries.
  • Manage inventory and storage for program materials.
  • Collect data about community engagement participation.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Schedule part-time host for museum programs.
  • Train and supervise interns and volunteers.

Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Experience designing and delivering engaging learning experiences for children (0-11 years old) and creating inspiring environments. 
  • Experience in early childhood development and play-based learning.
  • Proven ability to initiate, prioritize, organize, and execute multiple projects at a time. 
  • Demonstrated ability to share creative, fresh ideas. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 

Physical Demands

  • Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to a noisy and crowded atmosphere.
  • May need to walk between two buildings with some outdoor exposure.
  • Tuesday through Saturday schedule. Flexible schedule required, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
