About the team

For this 21st Century Digital and Media Teacher position, you'll be working for our high school in north Philadelphia called TECH Freire Charter School (9th-12th Grade): TECH Freire reimagines the college prep high school by blending state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on learning with the rigor of the time-tested Freire Schools liberal arts program to help each of our students truly thrive. We have a culture that demands excellence from our students while providing them the supports they need to achieve at high levels and prepare for college. 100% of TECH Freire's Class of 2023 were accepted to at least 63 colleges and universities and earned over $4 million in college scholarships and aid. TECH Freire Charter School (9-12): 2221 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19132

What you'll do

Through this 9th grade elective course, students will learn how digital platforms can be used professionally, creatively, and as one of the most powerful levers of change in their lives. In an increasingly connected digital world, students look to online platforms as a source of connection, self-expression, information, and progress.Students will learn how to leverage digital tools to effectively navigate, engage with, challenge, and change the world around them. You'll push students to investigate and learn about how Black scholars, activists, artists, scientists, and innovators have used the media of their time to connect, build community, strive for success, and fight for change. Students will then be challenged to leverage today's digital tools to share their own unique stories.

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain a classroom culture of critical thinking, learning, respect, and high achievement for all students.
  • Drive learning for students in areas like typing, G-suite applications, basic photography, computer safety and civility, and research.
  • Establish consistent communication rhythms with families regarding individual student progress and school related information.
  • Actively participate in professional development and collaboration with staff to support the needs of our students.
  • ISTE Standards and Common Core Reading and Writing Standards will be at the core of this class.

Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Valid state teaching certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong content knowledge
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done
  • At least 2 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations
Pay and benefits

*Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, salaries for certified teachers entering their first year of teaching start at $60,000. The annual salary range for this role is $50,000 - $85,000. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Pennsylvania employees are enrolled in Freire's 403(b) retirement plan which includes a 5% contribution from Freire.
