Department: Maintenance

Reports to: Maintenance Account Managers

Works With: Crews, Account Managers, Purchasing, Administrative Staff, etc.

Position Summary:

This is a skilled and supervisory position, which requires technical knowledge, logical decision-making, and manual labor under adverse weather conditions. The manager works directly with the maintenance foremen and field personnel in the planning, coordination, training, and evaluation of all day-to-day work performed by his/her crew and provide our customers with a quality service that is both profitable to Valor and good value for our clients through labor, equipment, and material management.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Assure that each foreman develops a thorough understanding of the projects under contract prior to beginning the project.

·         Maintain safety on each project by requiring and conducting Monday morning safety meetings and conducting daily safety inspections of equipment and jobsite.

·         Conduct daily DOT inspection reports on vehicles and ensure all field employees are issued and are using safety equipment.

·         Maintain a strong relationship with all property owners, managers, government agencies, trade associations and any other groups through good public relations and communication practices.

·         Communicate daily and as needed with all internal and external customers.

·         Responsible for weekly payroll duties consisting of employee timesheets, recording of daily mileage, vehicle numbers and equipment numbers. 

·         Responsible for billing sheets for each jobsite during snow removal operations

·         Support the maintenance crews with the proper equipment, labor, material, and training as needed.

·         Estimate projects as needed.

·         Ensures that company vehicles and equipment are operated and maintained properly; initiate any action to remedy malfunctioning or unsafe equipment.

·         Monitor project requirements such as equipment, manpower, special crews, material, and other similar requirements for each project; assist each foreman with any scheduling problems.

·         Monitor the labor cost analysis for each project weekly and direct the appropriate foreman to make any necessary changes to achieve the project budget goals.

·         Submit and maintain all records and reports required by each project and the division in an accurate and timely manner; assure foreman submit their daily paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.

·         Ensure that all assigned employees are properly trained, motivated, and performing to company standard.

·         Demonstrate efficient and effective organization and communication skills.

·         Provide disciplinary action as needed for employees with the Field Managers charge.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has direct reports with Crew Foreman and work crews.  They would coordinate all personnel allocation, evaluations, motivation, discipline and recognition issues with Account Managers and the Division Manager.  This position will interact with management, other department managers, purchasing and office personnel to help achieve all corporate objectives.  This position must be able to communicate and interact, in a respectable manner, with all levels of customer personnel.

 

Key Performance Indicators:

·         Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities listed in the crew member and crew foreman job descriptions.

·         Ability to communicate production requirements with work crews.

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

·         Ability to speak effectively with customers, employees, vendors, and other trades.

·         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple variables in situations with limited guidance.

·         Ability to interpret instructions and give direction from written, oral, scheduled, or diagrammed plans.

·         Ability to apply basic multiplication and departmental concepts to materials.

·         Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach with arms, climb, balance heavy objects, kneel, crouch, or crawl in various outdoor environments.

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Valid driver’s license and clean record

·         Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

·         Knowledge of landscape industry

·         Ability to meet all physical demands of the position.

·         Basic reasoning abilities to coordinate effective production.

·         Knowledge and experience in the use of landscape equipment

·         Integrity in all business dealings with all parties

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Supervisory experience

·         Bilingual communication

·         Industry contacts with vendors, builders, and potential employees

·         Computer skills with Word, Excel, Office

·         Commercial Driver’s License

·         Certified Landscape Technician

Work Environment:

·         40+ hours per week; Variable Snow hours

·         Exposed to year-round weather conditions

·         Frequently exposed to moving machinery and noise

·         Some heavy lifting may be required (+50LBS)

·         In and out of vehicles throughout the day

While performing the duties of this job the position is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The position frequently requires exposure to moving mechanical parts in tight, contained spaces. Encountering wet conditions in both extreme heat and extreme cold is often part of the position. Heavy lifting (excess of sixty pounds) and moving of materials may be required. Frequent driving is required. Noise levels in the work environment are moderate. We are a 100% drug free company.

Additionally, while performing the duties of this job, the position is regularly exposed to normal office environmental conditions. Noise levels in the office workplace are occasionally high.
