Job Title: Residential Aide (Full Time/Part Time)

Department: Haven Program

Reports To: Director of Youth Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

PHI Access Code Level II


Scheduled Work Times/Locations

Part Time (16-20 hours): Saturday and Sundays, 12 am-8 am, hours may vary

Location: 7 Charter Oak Hartford, CT

Job Summary:

Monitor and maintain the safety of the residential facility for the Haven Program at Community Housing Advocates, affiliates of My Sister’s Place and Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation. This position is classified as ESSENTIAL; therefore, the employee must report for work when scheduled, regardless of weather or other conditions that affect travel, and remain on duty until relieved by the supervisor or person scheduled for the next shift. Residential aides must remain on the premises during their shift unless authorized to leave.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • On arrival, discuss events of preceding shift with departing shift monitor and sign inter-shift forms.
  • Before departing, discuss the events of the shift that has been completed with the monitor of the next shift.
  • Admit residents and guests into the building, maintaining the sign-in/sign-out log.
  • Monitor visitors to residents, making certain that residents always accompany guests, that they are not intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, and that they stay in the common areas.
  • Answer the office telephone and take messages as required.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Follow all established security procedures including, but not limited to, monitoring of security system, changing security tapes, established rounds, key control, incident reports, etc.
  • Demonstrate ability to deescalate situations and maintain control of the group and the residence.
  • Monitor residents as they self-administer their medications per agency protocol.
  • Follow established procedures for accepting donations and deliveries.
  • Sign off on resident chores.
  • Check the first aid kit monthly to ensure that all necessary supplies are available in case of need.
  • Interact with ambulance and police department according to established policies.
  • Maintain all required necessary logs and ensure log reflects the activities of the shift.
  • Inform the supervisor of any problems and make notations in the logbook.
  • Second and third shift monitors are responsible for handling any emergencies that arise during their shift, including notification of managers/supervisors who are absent from the facility.
  • Perform any other task that will assist the agency in carrying out its mission.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Residential Aides have no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Youth Services and the Youth Services Case Manager.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings.
  • Participate in group work with clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with diverse clientele.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow through required, exceptional problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and or service providers or professionals.
  • Comfortable working with young adults.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification and some work experience, preferable with homeless persons, young adults, persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have a valid Connecticut driver’s license, vehicle, and clean driving record with proof of automobile insurance.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18.90 per hour, based on experience
