Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position will support, develop and implement environmental education programs specific to the Mojave Desert for the benefit of the general public, including K-12 schools. Also:
· Lead interpretive programs/hikes
· Present interpretive table-tops and impromptu talks
· Plan and participate in public outreach, special events and team work days
· Answer questions for the public in person, over the phone and via e-mail
· Keep careful records of programs, procedures and statistics
As the nature of public service evolves, so may the requirements of this position in-line with the mission of SNC and the needs of our partner and visitors.
Desired Qualifications
· Effective interpretive writing, public speaking and organizational skills
· Ability to communicate with the general public from diverse backgrounds and educational levels, ranging from young children to adults
· Good physical condition required for hiking, with a pack (up to 6 miles and elevation gain of 1,500 ft.) and ability to lift and maneuver supplies up to 50 pounds
· Familiarity and ability to work closely with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Friends of Red Rock Canyon (FORRC) and other partners
· Strong sense of teamwork
Required Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (such as science, environmental education or general education) from an accredited college or university
· Strong background in interpretation through education and/or job experience
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to duty station
· CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
· Completion of Nevada Naturalist Course or Certified Interpretive Guide not required but highly valued
