Job Description

LAYC is hiring a Community Schools Associate (CSA) to support students and families enrolled at Coolidge High School and Cardozo Education Campus. CSA will support Community Schools Coordinator (CSC) with program implementation to improve student achievement, develop community partnerships and provide vital resources to address student needs. This is a Full-time, Temporary position from 5/1/2024- 9/30/2024. Expected work hours are 9am-5pm, 40 hours a week.

LAYC/MMYC’s mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. To achieve that mission, LAYC/MMYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 5,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behaviors, and guide youth toward successful adulthood. LAYC/MMYC also conducts advocacy and public policy work to broaden opportunities for youth.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a liaison with school administrators, students, and staff to ensure a quality partnership with the school in the absence of and in collaboration with Community Schools Coordinator (CSC).
  • Implement wrap-around resources necessary for youth's success including, but not limited to, health and nutrition, food and diaper distributions, manage hygiene pantry, and supporting with referral linkages to community resources.
  • Support CSC with planning, execution, and debriefing of school-based events including, but not limited to, field trips, lunch time workshops, back to school events, LAYC Resource Fair, and attendance initiatives.
  • Attend and organize outreach events for Community Schools Program and special school initiatives.
  • Manage distribution of community schools needs assessment and work with Director and CSC to assess data from students and school staff to ensure alignment with programming.
  • Regular data collection and weekly data entry into LAYC’s integrated data management system (ETO) to monitor outcomes and improve program quality.
  • Provide support to CSC with reports that document program efforts as required by the funder.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree or significant experience in youth development.
  • Minimum 2 years of youth development experience.
  • School-based experience.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent facilitation and training skills.
  • Excellent time management and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • The willingness and desire to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a variety of environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of community and local resources.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings for school events.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
  • LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
