ABOUT AMIGOS FOR KIDS:
Founded in 1991, Amigos For Kids is a Miami-based nonprofit dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by valuing children, strengthening families, and educating communities. Amigos For Kids moves its mission forward through its education, awareness, and advocacy programs aimed at helping families in under-resourced communities thrive.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The counselor for the Amigos Strengthens Families & Communities Program’s primary responsibility is to facilitate group sessions with parents and/or caregivers. The counselors serves as a participant advocate, keeps abreast of progress, and coordinates all services delivered to the participant through external referrals and conducts screenings, registrations, and assessments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with the recruitment of program participants
- Conducts intakes and registrations for new program participants
- Conducts required assessments
- Maintains accurate and timely record of program activities intake forms, assessment results, attendance, and case notes
- Provides care coordination and support to program participants when needed
- Works collaboratively with other staff members to implement program sessions
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Skilled in developing and facilitating collaborative relationships
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of the principles of group dynamics and the facilitation of psychoeducational programs in a group setting
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field with a minimum of three years of experience working with children and families in a social service setting. Accreditation or ability to complete accreditation to facilitate the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program – Level 4 Group Birth through 12 years program within 3 months from hire date. Ability to communicate effectively with parents/families in English and Spanish. Experience working with diverse populations, with cultural and linguistic competency, and must have knowledge of and experience in multicultural settings. Must possess the ability to engage and motivate at-risk participants and potential participants through effective communication. Must be willing to work flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. Must have a valid driver’s license and have own transportation.
