Surgery Scheduler

We are seeking a detail-oriented Surgery Scheduler to join our team! Southern Vitreoretinal Associates has six locations throughout Florida and Georgia and six board certified physicians. The Surgery Scheduler will be responsible for coordinating surgeries for the physicians and perspective locations. Southern Vitreoretinal Associates (SVA) Surgery Scheduler, under direction of the Business Office Manager, will work all tasks from clinic and schedules surgical patients in a timely manner working in coordination with the Physicians and staff.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. High level of customer service with patients, physicians, staff, referring providers and surgical facilities

2. Coordinates scheduling patients from when Physicians surgical orders are written to the post-operative appointment

3. Communicates effectively with patients

4. Knowledge on physicians scheduling preferences

5. Schedule patients on the Outpatient Surgery Center (South Eastern Surgery Center-SESC) scheduling system; (Hospitals schedule on their own system)

6. Obtains medical clearances

7. Provide patients with pre-operative instructions

8. Ensure surgical facilities have all appropriate documentation prior to surgery

9. Perform insurance eligibility checks and obtain prior authorizations

10. Assists with collecting patient balances, co-pays, coinsurances and deductibles

11. Knowledgeable on utilizing the electronic health record

12. Ensures proper and timely documentation in the medical record or in other tracking tools

13. Be available to Physicians for add-on surgeries

14. Assists Physicians with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) orders

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High School diploma or equivalent

2. Medical experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

3. Well organized and detail-oriented

4. Working knowledge/experience with EHR/medical billing software.

5. Understanding of private insurance rules and regulations.
