Title: Clinical Nurse- Operating Room

Job Responsibilities:

• Greet patient and assess patient pre-operatively
• Assure all documentation, including consent, H&P, and allergy status is present in chart
• Draw up medication, spike bags, as per policy and procedures
• EMR Charting functions during procedures
• Secure and prepare all supplies required for surgical intervention
• Ensure adherence to sterile process and maintenance of the sterile field
• Perform instrument counts prior to each procedure
• Perform scrub functions (if appropriately trained, and comfortable with this duty)
• Collect and label specimens taken during surgical procedure
• Room turnovers as part of a Team
• Duties may additionally include functioning as a unit support technician and in the OR core.
• Follow all facility Policies and Procedures related to position and role in the O.R.
• Follow all federal, state and departmental safety procedures

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Assessment skills, logical thinking skills, computer operations, facsimile machines and copy machine ability.
• Basic aseptic principles and patient care technique. Competency in post-operative care skills and assessments.
• Assesses the patient's recovering for sedation and/or anaesthesia and makes appropriate judgments for nursing intervention.
• Recognizes life threatening arrhythmias and initiates appropriate therapy and/or assures assistance.
• Monitors the patient's level of consciousness through communication and appropriate observation of blood pressure, 02 saturation, cardiac and respiratory status

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• CPR certification
• ACLS required
• One year OR nursing experience preferred
